The tube could have capacity for up to three lanes with safety shoulders for emergency vehicles.


Six Lanes are Better than Four!

The Battery Street Tunnel is only four lanes and cannot be easily expanded without tearing down hundreds of millions in expensive real estate. - So, no matter what they do on the waterfront, this choke point still exists. A new tunnel under the city avoids this restriction by bypassing the antiquated Battery Street Tunnel. The Seattle TUBE can be built with a smoother grade and less dramatic curves for optimum traffic flow through the city.
